Elena

Yoga Instructor

I am a 5th year medical student and yoga teacher who is passionate about a holistic approach to health. Medicine has taught me about the complexity and intricacy of the body, whilst practicing yoga for almost ten years has given me an understanding of the connection between the body and the mind.

Driven by curiosity for the physiological changes that arise from relaxation techniques (such as activation of the parasympathetic nervous system to promote a state of ‘rest and digest’), I integrate meditation, breath work and mindfulness with physical movement. Yoga not only improves mobility, but it importantly creates the opportunity to tune in to the mind and spirit, in order to harness patience, calm and self-compassion.

I have developed a particular interest in patient-centred care through teaching yoga to cancer patients. This has given me an expertise for recovering from illness beyond medical treatment, where evidence-based medicine and practices that support health can complement one another.

Whether it’s an existing or previous illness, or simply an intention to channel relaxation and connection to the body, I teach and deliver techniques to empower people to take control of their own health. Ultimately, I hope to build a career that bridges modern medicine with traditional practices, through an individualised and all-encompassing approach to cultivate wellbeing.
