Beyond the Clinic Doors: Why We’re Doing Healthcare Differently at Perform Health Co.
If you’ve ever dealt with a persistent sports injury, a tweaking lower back, or that nagging shoulder stiffness that just won’t go away, you know how frustrating the process can be. You book an appointment, wait in a sterile, fluorescent-lit waiting room, get handed a generic sheet of printed exercises, and are sent on your way.
When head Physiotherapist Steven Cockburn set out to open Perform Health Co., the goal was to completely flip that script.
We wanted to build a place right in the heart of our local community in Bruntsfield that felt like stepping into a peaceful sanctuary rather than an overly clinical environment. Somewhere you can actually relax, feel heard, and focus entirely on building a stronger, more resilient body.
Here is a look behind the scenes at what we do, how our space is built, and why we’re passionate about helping Bruntsfield move better.
1. Everything You Need Under One Roof
Recovery is rarely a one-size-fits-all journey. Pain might start in a joint, but long-term relief often requires a blend of hands-on treatment, movement retraining, and tailored strength work.
That’s why our multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, massage therapists, personal trainers, and Pilates instructors work together under one roof:
Expert Physiotherapy: Every recovery journey begins with a deep dive into your history and movement during our Initial Assessment. You won't just walk away with advice: we provide effective manual therapy starting from your very first visit, alongside specialized treatments like shockwave therapy and acupuncture.
Targeted Massage Therapy: From post-run leg refreshes to tackling desk-bound upper back tension, our sports and soft tissue massage sessions focus on restoring tissue mobility and melting away strain.
Personal Training in a Private Gym: Forget overcrowded commercial gyms. Our dedicated gym studio is fully kitted out so you can build real strength, core stability, and cardiovascular health in a private, supportive environment.
Reformer Pilates Studio: Core stability and controlled movement are game-changers for rehab and injury prevention. Our private studio hosts class sizes capped at just 3 people. This means expert, highly focused instruction every single time you step onto the reformer.
2. A Space Designed Around You
Have you ever tried doing physical therapy exercises in the middle of a noisy, crowded gym floor? It can feel overwhelming and exposed.
We carefully designed our ground-floor clinic on Bruntsfield Place high street to feel calm, private, and comfortable from the second you walk through the doors:
Ground-Floor Accessibility: Convenient reception area and ground-floor WC access make getting in and out seamless, even if you’re moving with pain.
Private Treatment Rooms: Calm, quiet, fully equipped rooms designed for full concentration on your hands-on care and rehabilitation.
Dedicated Gym & Studio: Specialized spaces built specifically for one-on-one and intimate small-group training.
3. What Happens When You Step Through the Door?
We believe total transparency and a clear plan are the keys to successful recovery. When you work with us, you always know what to expect:
A Full Assessment & Listen: We take a thorough history and assess your biomechanics to find the actual root cause of pain.
Immediate Hands-On Relief: Manual therapy begins right away on Day 1.
Collaborative Goals: You set the target (whether that’s running the Edinburgh Marathon, pain-free lifting, or simply playing with your kids comfortably) and we map out how to get there.
A Clear Recovery Roadmap: You’ll leave your session with a plain-English plan showing where you are, where you’re going, and the exact steps to get moving better.
